Hawaiian plate lunches — teriyaki chicken, pulled pork, and Spam musubi over sticky rice with mac salad. Casual, filling, and a fun change of pace for Milo. (Liberty Rd location, open from 11am.)

600+ booths of antiques, vintage finds, and oddities — a fun afternoon to wander and treasure-hunt. Open till 8pm, pet-friendly, easy browsing.

Old warehouse strip on Manchester St — restaurants, patios, bars, and James E. Pepper distillery. Easy dinner, and the grown-ups can do a tasting.

Early start, drive east

The big one — about an hour east to Slade. Get rolling early to beat the heat and have the whole day in the Gorge.

Sky Lift up, hike down

Rode the chairlift up to the 65-ft Natural Bridge arch, walked across the top for the big view, then hiked back down the Original Trail. Perfect way to kick off the day.

Cable's Riding Stables — ride with Randy

A ~1-hour guided horseback trail ride through gorge country with Randy — the real-deal ride and a trip highlight.

Miguel's Pizza

The legendary climbers' hangout near Natural Bridge — build-your-own pizza on a laid-back patio, the social heart of the gorge.

Nada Tunnel — drive through

The "Gateway to the Gorge" — a 900-ft one-lane tunnel blasted straight through the rock. Creep through (yield to oncoming cars) and pop out the other side. A genuinely cool, slightly spooky thrill.

Down to Jump Rock

Capped the day with a swim and cliff jumps at Jump Rock — the perfect cool-off before the drive home. An absolute blast.

Red River Gorge

Unguarded water — only jump where it's deep and clear, and skip it if the river's high or muddy.

Drive back to Lexington

Easy hour back to downtown. Low-key dinner near the Airbnb — you'll have earned it.

Thursday — Raven Run + easy afternoon

Coffee and breakfast downtown, then head out before the midday heat — mornings are cooler for the trail.

Raven Run Nature Sanctuary

A 734-acre preserve ~25 min south of downtown. Wooded, unpaved trails wind out to a stunning Kentucky River overlook — the main loop is a moderate few miles. Free, open 8am–6:30pm. Wear real shoes and bring water.

Relaxed lunch near campus or back downtown — lots of casual spots, nothing you need to book.

Afternoon

Horse-country scenic drive (optional)

If you're up for a little more, loop Old Frankfort Pike / Versailles Rd for postcard Kentucky horse farms — mostly from the car. Same direction as Whiskey Thief if you want to grab bottles on the way.

You already did the tour, so this is just a grab-and-go for bottles. Near Frankfort (~35 min west, same direction as the horse-country drive), open 10am–5pm Mon–Sat. Pairs perfectly with today's loop out west.

Friday — Cable's trail ride + gorge encore

You did the big loop Wednesday, so no agenda today: circle back to a favorite or hit anything you skipped — an easy arch, a favorite overlook. Let the ride be the main event.

Worth a second stop after the ride — or try Sky Bridge Station up in Pine Ridge for a change of pace (restaurant + brewery).

One more swim

Cool off at the Shelf (or wherever you loved Wednesday) before the easy drive home — a perfect way to close out the gorge.

Conveyor-belt sushi a few minutes from the mall — plates rotate by on the belt (every dish $3.50) and special orders arrive by little sushi car. A guaranteed hit with Milo; ramen, spring rolls, and more if he's not feeling raw fish.
